Henning Christiansen hatte 1967 Joseph Beuys vorgeschlagen, zu
seiner geplanten Aktion ­ „Eurasienstab“ ein großes Orgelwerk mit
dem Titel „fluxorum organum“ zu komponieren. Beuys und
Christiansen verabredeten, „fluxorum organum“ in fünf Abschnitte
zu gliedern. Henning Christiansen schrieb eine Komposition in fünf
Sätzen. Der Organist Franz Meiswinkel spielte die Komposition auf der
Orgel in der Düsseldorfer Liebfrauenkirche. Henning Christiansen nahm
das Ganze mit einem manipulierten Tonbandgerät auf. Die erste Aktion
„Eurasienstab“ fand 1967 in Wien in der Galerie Nächst St. Stephan statt.
Dazu wurde die Tonbandendfassung von „fluxorum organum“ gespielt.
1968 gab es eine Wiederholung in der Galerie Wide White Space in
Antwerpen. Hier entstand ein Film zu der Aktion, der aber Fragment blieb
und von der Komposition Christiansens nur den ersten und ein wenig vom
zweiten Satz wiedergab. Das Filmfragment ist insgesamt nur circa
20 Minuten lang.
Im Sommer 2008 bekam ich von Henning Christiansen einige alte
Tonbänder mit den vollständigen Aufnahmen seiner Komposition
„Eurasienstab – fluxorum organum“. Marcus Schmickler hat diese im
Piethopraxis Studio Köln restauriert und gemastert. In den Aufnahmen
weicht die Spielzeit von den Angaben in der Partitur ab.
Die Gesamtdauer in der vorliegenden Einspielung beträgt 72‘ 47“.

In 1967 Henning Christiansen proposed to Joseph Beuys that he,
Christiansen, composes a major work for organ titled “fluxorum organum”
for Beuys’s planned Aktion “Eurasienstab”. Beuys and Christiansen agreed
to structure “fluxorum organum” in five sections. Henning Christiansen
composed a piece with five movements. The organist Franz Meiswinkel played
the composition on the organ in Düsseldorf’s Liebfrauenkirche.
Henning Christiansen recorded the entire performance with a manipulated
tape machine. The first “Eurasienstab” Aktion took place in 1967 in Vienna at
the Galerie Nächst St. Stephan. There the final tape version “fluxorum organum”
was played. In 1968 there was a repeat performance at the Wide White Space
gallery in Antwerp. There was a film made of the performance, which, however,
remained a fragment and included only the first and a bit of the second part of
Christiansen’s composition. The film fragment is only about 20 minutes long.
In the summer of 2008 Henning Christiansen gave me some old tapes with
the complete recordings of his composition “Eurasienstab – fluxorum organum“.
Marcus Schmickler restored and remastered these tapes at Piethopraxis Studio, Cologne. On the recordings the actual playing times differ from the instructions
in the score. The total duration of this recording is 72’ 47”.
